Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

One of the more popular transparent orthodontics treatments, Invisalign is a revolutionary system that straightens your teeth and aligns your bite with a series of comfortable, clear plastic aligners.

Your aligners are made from an impression of your mouth, so they fit snugly and comfortably over your smile, where they gently and progressively push your teeth towards their target alignment until they’ve arrived at a perfectly straight, healthy, and beautiful smile.

Invisalign has become an incredibly popular alternative to traditional metal braces. Over six million smiles worldwide have benefited from the use of Invisalign.

What conditions does Invisalign treat?

Invisalign effectively treats most of the same conditions that are corrected with braces, such as:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open Bite

Many patients also choose to use Invisalign to just achieve generally straighter teeth.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is for everyone! It’s an incredibly popular orthodontic treatment for patients who have never straightened their teeth before, and also a good choice for patients who have had braces in the past but whose teeth have fallen back out of alignment.

Many adult patients tend to choose Invisalign because it allows them to straighten their teeth without the mouthful-of-metal look that comes with braces, but it’s also an excellent option for younger patients who don’t want to endure the hassles and embarrassment of traditional metal braces.

Invisalign Teen® has even recently added new features to make their aligners more friendly for younger patients: eruption tabs and compliance indicators.

Eruption tabs

Eruption tabs hold open an empty space in any area of your smile where you’re still waiting for a permanent tooth to come in. By keeping that space open in your smile, eruption tabs make it so that you can straighten your smile with Invisalign while your permanent teeth are still coming in.

Compliance indicator

The compliance indicator is a little blue dot on your aligner that’s designed to wear off after staying in contact with your teeth for a certain amount of time. That means that if your compliance indicator isn’t fading away, you know that you’re not wearing your aligners often enough. The compliance indicator is an excellent tool for parents and your dentist to check in on how diligently their teen is wearing the aligners.

Why should I choose Invisalign?

Invisalign’s state-of-the-art system has a number of benefits in helping you get a straighter, healthier smile, such as:

Comfort

Invisalign’s aligners are made of a smooth, BPA-free plastic that fits snugly around your teeth. They’re comfortable and hardly noticeable in your mouth.

Convenience

Invisalign’s aligners are removable, so you don’t need to change your diet or learn any special brushing and flossing techniques during your treatment. All you have to do is remove your aligners when it’s time to eat, brush, or floss, and put them back on as soon as you’re done.

Discretion

Invisalign’s aligners are clear and virtually invisible in your mouth, so you can straighten your smile without anybody knowing that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

How do I get started with Invisalign?

Your journey toward a straighter smile with Invisalign begins with a consultation at Viva Smile. Your dentist takes an impression of your mouth that’s used to make a virtual model of your smile in a computer.

That model is then used to map out all of the steps your teeth need to take in order to arrive at a target alignment. Each of those steps is used as a model for fabricating each of the aligners in your series.

You wear your aligners all day, every day, only taking them out to brush, floss, and eat. You move on to the next aligner in your series every two weeks, until you eventually arrive at your target alignment. Some patients are able to get through treatment and achieve their dream smile in as little as nine months.

Why should I choose Invisalign?

Invisalign’s state-of-the-art system has a number of benefits in helping you get a straighter, healthier smile, such as:

Comfort

Invisalign’s aligners are made of a smooth, BPA-free plastic that fits snugly around your teeth. They won’t tear up the insides of your cheeks, like the wires and brackets on traditional metal braces tend to do. Instead, they’ll fit comfortably in your smile.

Convenience

Invisalign’s aligners are removable, so you don’t need to change your diet or learn any special brushing and flossing techniques during your treatment. All you have to do is remove your aligners when it’s time to eat, brush, or floss, and put them back on as soon as you’re done. And because it’s easier to keep your teeth clean with Invisalign, it won’t be nearly as difficult for you to keep your smile fresh and free of bad breath.

Discretion

Invisalign’s aligners are clear and virtually invisible in your mouth, so you can straighten your smile without anybody knowing that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. And because they’re removable, you can take them out for special occasions, like prom photos or job interviews.

Speed

Invisalign tends to straighten your smile faster than braces. Braces typically take about two years to achieve results. Invisalign treatment, on the other hand, typically takes between six and 18 months.

How do I get started with Invisalign?

Your journey toward a straighter smile with Invisalign begins with a consultation at Glad Dental P.C. If your dentist determines that Invisalign would be beneficial to your smile, they take an impression of your mouth using a dental putty or an intraoral scanner. That impression is then uploaded to a computer, where it becomes a virtual model of your smile in a computer.

That model is then used to map out all of the steps your teeth need to take in order to arrive at a target alignment. Each of those steps is used as a model for fabricating each of the aligners in your series. You get two aligners in each of your sets: one for your top teeth and one for your bottom teeth.
